IMMUNOSTIMULATING LASER THERMOTHERAPY (ILT)
Curing and helping patients with cancer in solid organs. Most cancers are situated in solid organs. Worldwide, around 5.6 million people are afflicted every year. The method is suitable for tumours situated in the liver, breast, lung, prostate, kidney, pancreas and thyroid gland. In the world, carcinoma of the lung is the most common cancer (1.2 million new cases/year), followed by breast cancer (1 million), while liver cancer (0.56 million) and prostate cancer (0.52 million) rank 5 and 6, respectively.
Our method improves immune defence against treated and untreated tumour and prolongs survival in animals with liver cancer, as compared to surgical resection. Similar findings have been demonstrated in patients. The method is safe, cost efficient and clinically tested. ILT will be sold to clinics treating cancer patients all over the world.
Market penetration: Scandinavia 2011, Euroupe 2011/12 USA 2012/13, Asia/ROW 2014+.
Two patents recently approved in Sweden. Currently in PCT-phase
Patient benefits: The method is efficent, curative and costeffective (for hospitals and the society)
Quality: It is easy to handle for doctors, lenient for the patient.
Competing methods are surgery, radiofrequency ablation (RFA), cryotherapy (freezing), photo-dynamic therapy (PDT) and high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU).
In contrast to ILT , these techniques do not elicit a specific and powerful immune defence against the tumour. Furthermore, they have a lower precision (possibly except PDT) and are more traumatic. Surgery is the dominating alternative. It is, however, a traumatic intervention for the patient and depresses the immune defence.
